A recycling, artistic community center

We were in Mexico last week, in Sayulita, a town about 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta visiting friends with a home there. One of our side trips included the small town of San Pancho, the next town over. Another beach town, it is filled with shops and restaurants, it also has a really interesting and successful 16,000 sq ft community center built around recycling, reuse and creativity -- EntreAmigos.
It has everything a community center has -- computers, community rooms, classrooms, exercise classes, a book lending library, classes & workshops, an art gallery and activities for kids. There's even a community garden. But what makes this different is that it is in a former milk processing factory vacant since the 1970s, it's modus operandi is creativity and recycling/reuse.

Arte y jardines de México

I was in Mexico last week on vacation and enjoying visiting a few gardens, markets, a garden art store, and even a garden center. There were great meals & margaritas too, but this isn't a blog about them. We were staying with friends about 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, on the Pacific coast. Here is some random Mexican loveliness from our wandering. I'll post more about the gardens & visits later in the week.

Villandry - the world's most beautiful garden

I keep posting this same photo for my post every Valentine's Day. It's from our visit to Villandry, in the Loire Valley of France. It is of one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. If you want to see just how beautiful it is, please visit http://www.lovethesepics.com/2012/02/garden-of-love-at-chateau-de-villandry-most-romantic-gardens-in-france-40-pics/#more-3766.

The blogger emailed and asked to use one of my photos (I love when that happens) and it is included in the 40 photos of this one-of-a-kind garden. You won't believe the pictures. The best I've ever seen of this garden. Even mine.

You'll be gobsmacked by the photos.

Hearts in the Gardens Posters for sale!

I have 25 Hearts posters left -- if you'd like one, you can purchase one though Paypal in the right hand column, at the top. Partial proceeds will benefit the National Garden Festival. If you order one, I'll get it sent out to you the week of February 27. Around 250 people showed up the Hearts in the Gardens fundraising party for the Festival, held at the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens during their NIGHT LIGHTS at the Gardens display. Larkin Development Group was the sponsor for the evening, and volunteers had rounded up great garden items for a Silent Auction (everything from a gas grill, to a signed Buffalo Bills football, to a wheelbarrow full of garden goodies from Urban Roots Community Garden Center,  to a garden consultation by Master Gardener (and columnist and TV garden personality) Sally Cunningham CNLP. And the raffled baskets? Everything from ceramics to original art to hotel overnights.

Pruning garden posters

The Hearts in the Gardens posters I designed are done and printed. Though they need to be trimmed. Couldn't afford to do a large-run printing of the posters, so had a friend with a large format printer print out 50 of them for me (thank you Mike & Ellen!). Now I have to cut each one out by hand to 18"x24." Good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Posters can be purchased through Paypal in the upper right column here on the blog. Have any problems, please let me know!

Hearts in the Gardens is warming hearts

Executive Director Sally Cunningham says her heart is all warmed up because of the generous donations for the National Garden Festival's fundraiser auctions! "People have been incredibly generous," she says, "in spite of a so much competition always asking businesses for donations."
