Garden checkers or chess set

Wouldn't this be cool – to do an actual chess set with different succulents or cactus representing different chess pieces with different colored min-pots? Found this on the Blackrock Riverside Tour of Gardens a few years back.

These are the things that keep me up at night. Especially when I've got too much time to think and not enough time spent gardening.
